You may have heard that Vidkid7 finally managed to press Rand Miller for an answer to the long-standing question whether Bevin is or is not the D'ni word for "Neighborhood"; and it turns out the the answer is no.
We still do not know what the name Bevin does mean; nor do we know what the D'ni term for a neighborhood is (only that it is some word other than bevin).
A neighborhood is a place that is near to home, and we have a word fahsh that means "near" and the word for "house" (and probably "home") is tomahn -- which may come from to "place" + mahn "existence," meaning something like the place where we spend most of our existence.
I would suggest that fahsh-mahn (literally "existence near") could be a word for "neighbor" with derivative fahsh-mahn-ets for "neighboring (i.e. existing near to)" or "neighborly." And the word for "neighborhood" might be fahsh-to-mahn or perhaps just fahsh-to for short.
